How it differs from Ahrefs / Semrush competitor reports
Ahrefs & Semrush track WHAT your competitor ranks for.Keywords, backlinks, estimated traffic — the strategy layer. You learn that they're ranking for “cheap widgets” and you're not.
Seoxpert tracks HOW healthy their site is. Are they CSP-secure? Do they pass Core Web Vitals heuristics? Have they added llms.txt? Is their structured data rich-result eligible? You learn that their technical foundation is 12 points stronger than yours and where the specific gaps are.

How does competitor monitoring work?
You register up to 3 competitor URLs on Pro (10 on Agency). Each one gets scanned automatically every week against the same 20-category checklist as your own site. The dashboard shows a side-by-side score comparison and surfaces when a competitor fixes a high-impact issue (their score went up) or regressed (their score went down — an opportunity for you).
Do competitor scans count against my monthly quota?
Yes. Each competitor scan deducts 1 from your `scan_credits.balance` — the same pool that user-owned scans draw from. Pro is 100 scans/month total, Agency is 500. A workspace tracking 5 competitors on weekly cadence uses ~20 scans/month for competitors alone (5 × 4 weeks), leaving plenty for your own domains.
Can I see what changed on a competitor week-over-week?
Yes. Click into any competitor scan from the dashboard and you get the same scan-results view you get for your own domains — health score, findings by severity, change-since-last-scan diff. The "Score climbed" celebration banner fires on competitor scans too: if their score went up by 5+ points, you'll see exactly which issues they fixed.
Is this different from Ahrefs / Semrush competitor reports?
Yes. Ahrefs and Semrush track backlinks, keywords, and traffic estimates — useful for SEO strategy. Seoxpert tracks technical health (SEO + security + performance + AI search readiness + EU compliance). The two are complementary: Semrush tells you what keywords your competitor ranks for, Seoxpert tells you whether their site is technically healthier than yours and where the gaps are. Most users run both.
Will my competitor know I'm tracking them?
They'd see normal-looking scan traffic in their server logs — same as any other crawler. We don't identify you specifically. The User-Agent is "Seoxpert-Scanner/1.0" which they could block if they wanted; most don't bother since legitimate audit scanners (Lighthouse, PageSpeed, etc.) hit their site daily.
Can I get alerted when a competitor's score changes?
Yes. Pro and Agency tiers can configure webhooks (per workspace) that fire on `score.dropped` events. We don't yet support competitor-specific alert rules, but every workspace webhook receives events for every scanned URL — including competitors. Filter on `rootUrl` in your receiver.
